One of the easiest ways to convert photos to digital files is to hire a company to do it for you. However, you need to find a good company if you do this, because you are placing trust in them with your most prized memories, something that cannot ever be replaced. As you look for a scanning company to use to digitize your photos, consider these features.

Quick Turnaround

Even if you are not in a hurry, look for a company that will get your scans done quickly. The longer your pictures are out of your care and in theirs, the more chance there is that they will be lost or damaged. A quick turnaround, of course, helps if you need the digital images quickly for an important project.

Quality Equipment

Anyone can scan photos from their own home. If you are going to pay someone else to do it, you want to be sure that the quality is worth paying for. Look for a company that has professional grade equipment. Professional photo scanners deliver the best possible scans, and if you are going to give a company your hard-earned money to scan your pictures, you want the final product to look as professional as possible.

Quality Scanning Procedures

Some companies will bulk scan pictures. This saves time, but it does not allow the scanner to enhance pictures when needed. It can also lead to problems if the scanner's settings were off for a set of images. Look for a company that individually scans pictures, and possibly even enhances them when appropriate. A quality company will do quality assurance checks of the final scans.

Trained Staff

The company you want to use to convert photos to digital files will hire professionally trained staff. Graphic artists are ideal for this role, because they know how to adjust images for the best possible quality. They know the ins and outs of color that will allow them to make small adjustments, which will make a huge impact on the final product.

Satisfaction Guarantee

What happens if you are not happy with the final scanned image? Will you have to pay for the scanning services anyway? Look for a company that offers a no-questions-asked satisfaction guarantee. Of course, you need to have realistic expectations. Even the best restoration techniques will not be able to restore a severely damaged image, and the problems on your original will probably be reflected in the scan. That being said, you should not have to pay for work you are not happy with.

Enhancement Options

Does your original photo have a subject with glaring red eyes? What about the need to have color or contrast boosted? Choose a scanning company that will help you by enhancing your photo to deal with some of these problems. Sometimes there is an additional charge for these services. If you can find a scanning service that offers some enhancements free of charge, you have found an excellent company to use.

Remember, you need to feel confident with the company you choose. You are entrusting them with your photos, something that cannot be replaced, so make sure they are going to do a good job. By choosing the company carefully, you will ensure that the entire process is a positive one.
